What To Expect on the Maligne Lake Boat Cruise
We set off early in the morning for our cruise, and the waters were super calm. Our tour guides gave us some helpful information about the nature we were seeing, as well as some historical background about the area. We will hold pre-booked rentals for up to 15 minutes beyond the scheduled rental time. After this, the rental will no longer be reserved for you and will be open to walk-in customers. Please note that if you arrive late, the amount of time is factored into your rental duration. E.g. if you have rented for 1 hour and arrive 15 minutes late, then you will have 45 minutes remaining.

When is the Best Time to Photograph Spirit Island
Known as the “Lake of Deep Waters” and the “Lake of Healing,” Chaba Imne held profound spiritual importance. Even today, First Nations individuals continue to visit the picturesque Spirit Island. Nevertheless, if you can’t score a camping reservation and paddle 14 km in for a photograph, we totally get it!

It’s a search engine with lots of deals with good customer service. In fact, I’ve used them all over the world including in Chile, New Zealand, and Australia. If you ask us to pick just two things we love about this area wildlife and waterfalls would definitely be up there! So, it should come as no surprise that this Jasper Wildlife and Waterfalls tour is one of our favorites. Maligne Lake is located inside Jasper National Park about 48 kilometers (30 miles) from Jasper itself.
These campsites require advance reservation and are very hard to get as they are extremely popular, especially Fisherman’s Bay in the summer. If you don’t have your own canoe or kayak to get to Spirit Island, you can rent one with Wild Current Outfitters. The waters also draw in birdlife that includes Bald Eagles, Osprey, and Golden Eagles.
Travel tips
Cruises start running at 9am, and because mornings on the water are some of the calmest (and our favorite), we would recommend purchasing a tour as early as possible. This will also still give you excellent morning light on Spirit Island. The 2 hour premium cruise treats you to an extended version of the Classic Cruise with additional time on the lake and at Spirit Island. Pay airfare for one guest, and you'll automatically lock-in roundtrip flights for two. Secure these savings online by choosing your nearest airport in step one of your cruise booking, and enjoy air-to-sea made easy.
You get 360-degree mountain views and a close view of three glaciers. The water color changes as the water moves from the inflow to the outflow of the lake. The closer you are to the glaciers, the more emerald the color of the water is.
If all these things are important to you, we recommend booking the premium cruise. Sail 14 kilometres atop Maligne Lake, past towering peaks and glaciers, to the peaceful and remarkable Spirit Island. The Pyramid Lake Resort is beautiful, and it is set in an even more beautiful location! Pyramid Lake is the perfect place for hiking, swimming, kayaking, or even skating in the winter. Pyramid Lake Resort doesn’t cut any corners and it’s a highly-rated hotel.
The cruise boats are enclosed and heated, with large windows, and they’re the smaller kind of boats. They have room for two rows of bench seating inside, with 3-4 people sitting on each bench – which means that a window seat is not guaranteed, so line up early to get one. Stop at the viewpoint at Medicine Lake and keep your eyes open for wildlife, because moose, deer, big-horned sheep and bears are often seen along Maligne Lake Road. This post tells you about our experience about the Maligne Lake boat tour and everything else you need to know before you visit Lake Maligne. It is one of the most serene lakes in all of the Canadian Rockies and is prized for its astounding natural splendor.
Because it’s the only way to experience the grandeur of Maligne Lake. Being 23 km long, it’s the longest natural lake in the Canadian Rockies, and the second largest glacier-fed lake in the world. “If Lake Louise is a pearl, Maligne is the entire pearl necklace” – said Mary Schäffer, the first European who saw the lake in 1908. If you have any other questions leave a comment or see our Canadian Rockies travel guide for more articles about photography spots, lakes, hikes, and everything else.
Then the first cruise available in the morning, typically around 9am, or the last one of the day, are the best options. Most interesting enough is the vast majority of the year it is not an island as it is connected to the lakeshore. Spirit Island is a spiritual place for the Stoney Nakoda First Nation. Mountains are considered the physical representations of ancestors, and since the island is surrounded by the same mountain range it is immensely treasured.
